Denielle Martinez is a contemporary surrealism mixed-media artist best known for creating thought-provoking cityscapes with bold colour, inspired by dream symbolism and archetypes. With her layered use of mixed media and acrylic ink, she creates visually immersive art out of her studio in the Kootenays of British Columbia.
Although she demonstrated natural artistic talent as a child, Denielle returned to her practice later in life after raising a family and experiencing a series of metamorphic life events that shaped the lens through which she sees the world. Self-taught and intuitively driven, she continually experiments with new ideas and techniques which is shown in her most recent work.
Through art, Denielle cultivates her interest in the contradictions of the human psyche, often using power animals as a symbolic representation of the shadows underneath our imbalances. Her work invites the viewer to consider their own internal contradictions and explore the psychological tension within the tamed beast. Viewers often describe her work as intriguing, intimate, and quietly captivating, drawing out a version of their own story from within the art.
Her artwork is displayed locally and has been donated to gala fundraisers supporting non-profit organizations. In addition to her visual art practice, Denielle offers complementary modalities and tools that support self-realization and the illumination of our higher wisdom.
